Shorin Ryu Karate Jutsu Classes in Smithtown
Karate is an open hand fighting system that originated in Okinawa hundreds of years ago. Its roots are traced to the Shaolin Temple Monks in Northern China. Karate translates to “empty hand.” Shorin Ryu translates to “Way of the Shaolin.”
We teach the Style of Shorin Ryu as taught by one of the Senior Instructors of Shorin Ryu Matsubayashi, Seigi Nakamura, who continued to teach several of his own students the Style of Karate Jutsu as he had learned it. Among his notable Students, was Choki Kishaba, who in turn passed his knowledge onto Ketsuhiko Shinzato (Kishaba Juku) and Toshihiro Oshiro.
You'd be learning under Michael Rosati, who began studying Karate on Okinawa in 1972 under Eizu Shimabuku of Shorin Ryu Shobayashi. Since then he's been a student of Shorin Ryu under Ansei Ueshiro, Joseph Fuschi, Arthur Ng, Takayoshi Nagamine (Matsubayashi Ryu) and Toshihiro Oshiro. He's studied under Dr. Milorad Stricevic (the Chairman of Sport Science (L.I. University) and Coach for the 1994 Karate World Cup Team, and has had the pleasure of briefly training with Choki Kishaba (Shorin Ryu) and his brother Chogi Kishaba (Yamane Ryu Kobudo).
